Confident Can Pursue Honda Yamaha

Yamaha rider is optimistic they can cut the gap with Honda, following the results of tests at Losail, Qatar, on Sunday (13.03.11). Although Honda is still dominant by placing three pebalapnya in positions 1-3, but the Yamaha can compensate for Ben Spies, Jorge Lorenzo and Colin Edwards, filling the next three positions.

In two previous pre-season test at Sepang, Malaysia, Yamaha difficulty keeping pace with Honda. At that time, the champions, said that, based on what the pebalapnya, they still have a problem in engine power.

"We made the bike towards a better today and hopefully we can get a little better," said Spies. "Tomorrow, we wanted to try another tire, which has never been used.

"Motor looks already much closer than that in the future than the time in Malaysia and I have great hopes after the first day. The track here is more flowing, which fits with our motors; I think it's a good track for us."

Wilco Zeelenberg team boss welcomes the pebalapnya optimism. He also admitted, Losail Circuit is likely to be a good place for Yamaha.

"The test of our first nice day and I'm happy," he said. "Jorge completed 60 laps and a lot different than in Sepang. As we expected, when the temperature is colder, we benefit.

"We have reached a fairly long distance and the speed is good, a little more slowly than the pace during the race last year so that the track might be a bit cleaner. We confirm that we need this test so that everything's under control."

Lorenzo Pessimistic, Optimistic Spies

MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo admitted that he was not too competitive to fight for the victory on the opening series this season in Qatar on Sunday (20/03/2011). The Yamaha rider looked pessimistic after the second day of diving practice at Losail, Qatar, on Monday (3/14/2011).

In recent tests the pre-season, Lorenzo slumped in the seventh. He was unable to break the dominance of the Repsol Honda duo, Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, who mastered the position 1-2, and not compete with his teammate, Ben Spies, who is ranked third.

"I do not feel ready to compete to win," said Lorenzo told the official MotoGP website. "It would be difficult to fight on the podium, but we'll try."

Lorenzo said the tests on Monday showed he had a setback because of the difficulty to achieve the best results.

"I have such great expectations after yesterday. However, we just have not changed, either record the best time or feelings, because that still is far worse than yesterday," added the Spanish rider.
